RTU’s Offer in STEAM Education

Riga Technical University (RTU), as a science university, actively implements various initiatives to promote STEAM education, aiming to strengthen children’s, youth’s, and society’s interest in STEAM fields.

“STEAM education is more than just learning mathematics and other exact sciences. It fosters curiosity, creativity, critical thinking, responsibility, and decision-making skills in children and young people, preparing them for a successful future career in any field,” says RTU Vice-Rector for Studies, Elīna Gaile-Sarkane.

RTU’s STEAM Offerings:

Interest-based education at the Children and Youth University – engaging activities for a wide audience, from preschoolers to high school students. Under the guidance of knowledgeable RTU faculty, students can explore electronics, mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering, aeronautics, environmental science, drone building, economics, and innovation in an exciting way, adapted to their age.

“University for Future Engineers” lectures – a series of sessions for 8th–12th grade students, held once a month at RTU Ķīpsala campus. These in-person lectures, conducted by field professionals, provide insights into natural sciences, engineering and technology, economics and innovation, as well as architecture and design.

Advanced courses “Physics II” and “Chemistry II” for schools – an opportunity for students to take advanced courses at RTU if their schools lack the resources to provide them. 12th-grade students attend RTU once a week for theoretical lessons, seminars, laboratory work, and assessments. RTU provides all necessary materials, technical equipment, and access to scientific databases.

Preparatory courses for students – RTU supports students in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and drawing, helping prospective applicants prepare for centralized exams, RTU entrance exams, and future studies.

The RTU «Futurimo Riga» Curiosity Centre – an interactive science center where children, youth, parents, and teachers can explore natural science laws and learn how engineering and technology improve our lives through interactive exhibits, science shows, and educational activities.

Seminars for teachers – an opportunity for educators to meet, enhance their knowledge, and share experiences with colleagues.

ALEKS PPL

RTU continues to serve as a support hub for engineering and technology education for everyone. To further expand its STEAM offerings, RTU provides access to the adaptive ALEKS PPL.
